CPT code 36140 is used when catheter is placed into an extremity artery. this code should not be used when selective catheterization is performed via the same catheter.
For example, if catheter is placed into common femoral and removed back then we can report 36140. If the catheter is moved further into aorta and then selective catheterization is performed, then codes for selective catheterization are reported and 36140 should not be reported as selective catheterization includes non selective catheterization if performed via the same access site.
